April 30, 2012 - 3 little kittens who lost their mommy.
Hi all, I work in downtown S.B. and we have had a cute, petite gray
tabby female cat that had 3 kittens about a month or so ago, one
that is brown tiger/tabby, one that has beautiful blackish grey and
white, ears are dark, legs and face are white, and the 3rd is mostly
white with gray and white markings on the back and tail. They are
probably about 5-6 weeks old and have lived in a shed with their
mom who is a ferrel cat, but was friendly enough through the past
several months to feed and care about. The administrators here
wanted the cat gone and the kittens, last week. So, a co-worker
and I managed to catch momma kitty with food and a cat carrier,
the babies were caught Sat. and the last one just yesterday.
Momma and kittens were taken to my co-workers home (she has 3
cats already) in Redlands and when my she let the momma cat out
to clean the carrier, she escaped in the Redlands area. very sad,
as the plan was to find a no-kill shelter for the family. I need HELP
in either fostering the kittens or have people adopt them as I told
her I would take them home with me tomorrow. (May1) Are there
pet stores in our area that would be willing take the kittens? I
don't know too much about cat situations as I have 2 dogs one of
which would be not so happy to have a "CAT" around our house.
(Plus, I am allergic to cats) I WISH I could take one, they need to
be with people now, so I hope there is someone that can help
direct me to a good solution. Thanks for any and all help.
May 2, 2012 - 3 little kittens who lost their mommy.- UPDATE
Hi, sorry for the late post. Here is an update on the 3 little kittens.
I brought them home yesterday, and made a beeline to Ma & Paws
pet supply in R.S. to see if they could tell if they were male of
female, but the kittens were in bad shape as they have been in a
cat carrier since the weekend, and had no place to poop or pee,
and were pretty stinky, and anemic from fleas (thank God we don't
have fleas over 4,000 ft.) Steve and Lauren were SO great!! They
bathed each one, the fleas are no longer a problem and I got some
of the best formula and great food to help them. I honestly think
they may have been going into shock...They are only 5 weeks old,
and are really too young to adopt out right now. However, my
hubby and I are taking great care with them, they are now in my
old fashioned bathtub, with a heating pad under their
blanket/towel, ate a bunch, slept great, and this morning they
were trying to explore outside of the tub, jumping up and into their
poop area (probably another bath for them when I get home from
work). We are putting litter down in one spot in the tub today, so
they can get used to doing their thing without the mess. They SO
adorable, each one is different in looks and personality. Since they
were born to a feral cat, they were afraid of people and would hiss
and spit, but nothing else, and we are happy to hold and pet them
practically hourly, so they will be a wonderful adjusted
pet within a week or so. I can't thank Steve and Lauren at Ma and
Paws enough, they truely are angels when it come to knowing
what to do, and helping these special cuties! So, I will be
re-posting soon, and I will try to download some picture then, also.
Thanks for your encouragement and hopefully they will have great
homes soon! p.s. My dogs are curious and not mean to them so far!

UPDATE: May 2017
SHADOE has found a FOREVER HOME......with us. At first when we trapped her we were very scared of her. She would hiss, growl and was just a mean little buzz saw kind of kitty.
We did the responsible thing and brought her to the Veterinarian for a Wellness Check. Eventually she received all vaccinations, including rabies and she was spayed.
During the 5weeks since we trapped her we did make attempts to find a home for her.
We circulated this Adoption Flyer. Only 1 person responded but she was very hesitant and eventually never called back
to arrange a "meet & greet". By early-May we realized finding a home for a "feral" BLACK cat was not going to be easy. Briefly we considered releasing her back to the outside. We even researched building an outside habitat for her.
In the long run we just could not send her outside to a 50-50 chance of surviving the weather elements or existing mountain wildlife predators. Our next solution was to invest in a larger "condo cage" to help us socialize her.
UPDATE: November 2017
Here's our November update regarding SHADOE.
UPDATE: December 2017
SHADOE is still a bit shy and will not let us pick her up UNLESS she is in her "cat condo". The better news is that she no longer will hiss, growl or attempt to swat at us.
SHADOE has made even more progress and is now coming into the living room more often.... mainly to sleep in one of the K&H Pet Products Thermo-Kitty Deluxe Hooded Cat Bed we purchased from
CHEWY.COM. In the mornings
she enjoys looking out the living room bay window with the other kitties for birds and squirrels that venture upon the front deck.
Bless her heart She is trying to be comfortable and be a trusting kitty. SHADOE was not in our plans..... but she did choose us so we are doing what we can to keep her safe, warm and loved.
